Episode 9 with Amy Fagan Tate, CPM, CLC
How Natural Birth Impacted My Life and Marriage
In today’s episode, Liz discusses natural birth with Amy Fagan Tate, co-owner of Origins Birth & Wellness in Dallas. They touch on what natural birth is like, what its benefits can be, and even talk about Liz’s personal experience with both of her children’s natural births. Whether you’re a parent, a parent-to-be, or someone who hopes to be a parent one day - this one’s for you!
Please note that at MLC, we believe that there are many paths to the birth experience, and Liz is sharing but ONE of these paths- her own. We want our podcast to be inclusive of all experiences, and look forward to more episodes exploring different birth experiences and how those impact millennials lives and relationships!
”And if there is a word that I could use to describe my birth experiences, it’s transformative because I experience all of that and more. It’s like the, the intangible pieces of life, the emotional reckoning that occurred in me, that was just really amazing. I just really could never describe it perfectly in words, the experience that I had.” - Liz, on her personal experience with natural birth.
EPISODE NOTES:
There’s more openness and curiosity surrounding natural birth options amongst our generation today, and it’s surprising to many how much impact a natural birth can have on a relationship.
More and more women are intrigued by the idea of natural birth because, in a sense, it gives them their power back. This is an empowering moment in a woman’s journey.
At birthing centers, a major component of the natural birth process, from the very beginning, is to have the partner involved in every step of the way. This is a “we” thing, not just a “mom” thing.
This is an extremely life changing time in both partners’ lives, and men can be effected in the same way as women - this is just under-researched and under-reported about.
Men experience postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety (PPA) as well.
Skin to skin contact is important right after birth for both mother and father.
We need to look at the father’s experience just as closely and as intimately as we do the mother’s.
